Youth Employment and Skills (YES) Project

The YES project with funding from EMpower- The Emerging Markets Foundation Ltd seeks to increase employment opportunities for young people between the ages of 18 and 24 in Northern Region within Tamale Metro and Sagnarigu Municipality, for a period of 1 year (May 2023 to April 2024). The goal of this project is to enhance employment opportunities and overall youth workforce competitiveness through skills development for young people especially young women and girls who have not been meaningfully engaged economically. To enrich the practicality of the intervention and employability skills of young people, there shall be visits to thriving social enterprise businesses and 3-months job placements where both state and private business owners/employers in the digital and communication industry are partnered.

The specific objectives of this project include:

  • To improve knowledge and skills of 37 Young People on Charcoal briquette production, Photography & Videography and Social Entrepreneurship through training.
  • To increase employment opportunities and income among 37 young people.
  • Facilitate the development of business partnerships among young people.

The aim is to provide education on social entrepreneurship, skills training and support in photography and videography and charcoal and biomass briquette production which are current ventures emerging that young people can gain relevant skills and job opportunities for livelihood sustainability. Overall, the projects seek to offer opportunities to 37 young people which includes photography and videography 6, charcoal and biomass briquettes 6, social entrepreneurship training 25.
