Welcoming Akilah Blackett – Our New HerStart Social Entrepreneurship Fellow

NiV is delighted to welcome Akilah Blackett from Toronto, Canada, as our Social Entrepreneurship Fellow through the HerStart Fellowship program by Youth Challenge International (YCI).

Akilah brings with her a rich background in tech, youth engagement, and Afrocentric leadership. She holds a B.A. in Philosophy from York University and currently serves as the Head of Customer Success at SaaS company, FindBob.

In 2020, Akilah founded Afrika Outbound, a grassroots nonprofit designed to expose youth to transformative Afrocentric travel experiences. The program takes young people on meaningful journeys across Ontario, visiting historic Underground Railroad communities and connecting them to African Canadian heritage through stories, culture, and community.

Her commitment to empowerment and inclusion aligns with NiV’s mission. Akilah is especially inspired by the HerStart program’s emphasis on supporting women entrepreneurs, fostering sustainability, and nurturing collaborative, cross-cultural learning. As a fellow, she looks forward to walking alongside women in Tamale on their entrepreneurial journeys.

Akilah’s presence at NiV will undoubtedly add value to our programs, strengthen our commitment to youth and women’s empowerment, and foster lasting impact within our communities.
